Two Months with Samsung Galaxy Note (Review)

I was an iPhone user since 2009 and just decided to switch to Android in 2012. After browsing several brands and models, i decided to give it a try on Samsung Galaxy Note.

Instead of buying the phone outright, i decided to go with Digi package as they were having an Internet Gila Sales promotion during that time. I got it for RM1549 (retail price is RM2299) and committed with RM48 per month, with 3GB of data instead of 1GB. According to the staff, only white Samsung Galaxy Note comes with a free original flip cover, which is also in white (see the photos). Recently, Digi has reduced the device price to RM1399 but the monthly commitment of RM48/43 is only come with 1GB of monthly data. For further information, please click here

My first concern was the size. Is 5.3" screen size too big? Is it able to fit nicely into my pocket?

Eventually, 5.3" is not too big. After few weeks using my Galaxy Note, when i happen to use my old iPhone 3GS to retrieve data, i just feel like the screen is too small!!! The 5.3" screen gives me a very comfortable view on everything on screen.

Does it fit into my pocket? Yes, it does fit nicely into my pocket, such as my working pants and cargo pants.

The quality of the photos is excellent especially the quality of the video. However, one thing that I don't like is the lagging of the camera shutter. After pressing the capture button, photo will be taken after about 0.5 second. Other than that, everything is fine.

Stay tune for further review...

Updated:
The battery life - If i just put it on standby and use it occasionally to check my FB and email, the battery has 16% left after 53 hours of usage.

The first question you may ask is... what is PgDip?

The programme is designed as a professional development initiative to continuously retool and reskill young academics with knowledge and skills about Teaching at Higher Education, especially in the area of pedagogy and instructional technology (Click here for more information).

ISITI UNIMAS Writing Retreat at Damaipuri Resort, Kuching (3rd - 5th Feb 2012)

It was a writing retreat for the research group on the Orang Asli Telecenter project and the main purpose is to gather everyone in order to produce and compile a final report of the research project.

The 3-day writing retreat was held at Damaipuri Resort & Spa, Kuching but i missed the 1st day as i have to bring my baby to get her 2nd vaccine. Thus, i joined the group from the 2nd day onwards and below are the photos taken by me using Samsung Galaxy Note.

This is the lobby of the resort and the sea is just behind the registration counter.

Enjoying the nice view while walking towards my room after checking in...

The view from my room. I love the scene so much as it makes me feel very relaxing and just wanna sit back and relax. Unfortunately, i have to leave the room as soon as possible to join my group for the report writing.

A panorama view from my room. The good thing of Samsung Galaxy Note is that it has a function called Panorama in the shooting mode. Just choose it and swipe the phone horizontally, it will stitch the photos together and create a panorama photo.

Another panorama photo in the next morning.

The room. One thing they can improve is to kill off all the tiny ants as there are some marching in the room... i hate ants... Other than that its fine.

After the swim. The swimming pool is big and the view is really nice as the pool is just located next to the sea...

Sunset at the pool side...

Dinner time...

Logos Hope at Kuching (November 2011)

Visited the Logos Hope on the 5th Nov 2011 while it docked at the Kuching Port.

We visited the ship on Saturday and this is the consequence...

 Creative work

Boarding...

 The 132-meter long ship

After boarding and before going any further, everyone needs to attend a short briefing which explained the value of the books and facilities on board.

Obviously, not concentrate on the briefing...

History and photos

Check it out... haha

The world largest floating bookstore with more than 500K titles on board. I bought some books here including a book called 'SOC' which only cost me RM2.00. I love the content so much as it is related to sociology and even explain some elements of doing social research.

My wife, baby and the story board...

Temiar Blockade in Gua Musang, Kelantan - Site 1

The Orang Asli is very much dependent on the natural resources of their land (jungle) for their daily life. They have staying there for more than half a decade and yet their rights to the land is not recognized. The logging activity that carried out on their land has seriously affected their life and their future. Furthermore, resources were taken by outsiders and they didn't even get a cent for that. (Been there in 2011 for a research trip and feel really sad for the affected environment and the natural resources. The original people, minority, of the land have been marginalized and colonized by the outsiders, majority)...

Therefore, they have stood up and show their feeling to those who never want to listen. These photos were taken from Center for Orang Asli Concerns (COAC) Facebook account. If you interested to follow the story, please join their Facebook account by clicking here. Thank you.
